Consumer Health Data Collection Consent
Effective Date: 10/13/2026 · Last Updated: 10/15/2026
This document asks you for one thing: your consent to our collecting your Consumer Health Data, for the purposes described below and no others. Several states' consumer health data laws require that this consent be a clear, affirmative act of its own, given before any collection, and that the request tell you four things: what we collect, why, who receives it, and how to withdraw. We wrote this document to the strictest of those laws so that it satisfies every one of them, and we ask every Nisone user for this consent, wherever they live. Your consent to our sharing of that data is a separate act, asked in the Consumer Health Data Sharing Consent.
"Consumer Health Data" means the measurements, journal entries, intake answers, and study participation information you record in Nisone, together with your email address, which is the only identifier we hold for you.
What We Collect
- Identifiers: your email address. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account, in order to confirm that you are an adult, and we do not store it.
- Health and wellness information you record: the measurements you log, including numeric readings, ratings on a scale, yes/no answers, and free‑text journal entries; your answers to a study's intake form, which may include health history, demographics, and other self‑reports the study author asks for; and the time each entry was taken, including, where a study calls for it, the time relative to waking.
- Study participation information: which studies you have joined, which treatment arm you are in, when you started, and whether and when you left or were discontinued.
We collect it from one source: you, entering it into Nisone. We do not collect purchases or payment information, network activity, geolocation, audio or images, or inferences about you, and no third party collects information about you over time and across sites through Nisone.
Why We Collect It, and How We Use It
Only as strictly necessary to provide the service you ask for by creating an account and joining a study. We use your Consumer Health Data to:
- keep your measurement log so that you can review it;
- schedule the measurements a study asks of you, and tie each measurement to its study and treatment arm;
- establish whether you fit a study you ask to join, and describe the population whose measurements are pooled;
- pool your measurements with those of other participants in the same study, so that the study can answer its question; and
- comply with a legal obligation.
We do not use it for advertising, we do not use it to train language models or any other machine‑learning system, and we do not use it for any purpose not listed here.
Who Receives It
- Other Nisone account holders, who can download the pseudonymous export of any study you join. That sharing is the subject of the separate Consumer Health Data Sharing Consent.
- Study authors, who can see that your account has joined their study and which arm it is in.
- DigitalOcean, LLC, which hosts our servers and processes your data on our behalf, under a written contract that binds it to confidentiality and permits no other use. Passing data to a service provider so that it can run the service for us is necessary to provide the service and is not sharing.
- Public and government authorities, including law enforcement, only when compelled by a valid legal process. We never volunteer it.
We do not sell Consumer Health Data, and no one else receives it.
How to Withdraw
You may withdraw this consent at any time by deleting your account from within the Nisone application, or by emailing us at hello.nisone@proton.me from the address on your Nisone account. Either is as easy as giving the consent was. Withdrawing it stops further collection from the moment we receive your request. Because recording your measurements is the service, withdrawing this consent ends your use of Nisone; deleting your account erases its identifiers, so that the measurements it produced can no longer be connected to you.
What You Are Consenting To
By accepting this document you consent to our collecting the categories of Consumer Health Data listed above, for the purposes listed above, and to its reaching the recipients listed above. You are not consenting to anything else.
Changes to This Consent
We will not collect any category of Consumer Health Data, or collect it for any purpose, that is not disclosed in this document without first updating it and asking for your affirmative consent again. We announce a material change in the application as its own notice, before it takes effect, so that you can read what changed and withdraw first if you prefer.
